You’d be amazed at how a few small changes can result in big savings on your home gas and electricity bills.

Here are our top tips on cutting energy waste, saving money on electricity & gas and doing your bit for the environment.

  • Install a smart meter. It will help you keep track of the energy you’re using and when you’re using it, and give you a clue to ways you could economise.
  • Turn down your heating thermostat. Lowering it by just 1°C can cut your bill by up to 10%.
  • What’s the point in heating or cooling your home when there’s nobody there? Re-set the times on your heating and you’ll save money on your bills. Even better, invest in a remotely controlled thermostat which you can set from your mobile.
  • When your heating is switched on, make sure doors and windows are closed. If you don’t, you’re wasting energy.
  • Replace your lighting with LED lamps. They’re not expensive, and they can halve the amount it costs to light your home!
  • Compare energy efficiency ratings before you purchase new electrical appliances like washing machines and driers, and choose A++ or A+++ rated items if you can.
  • Don’t leave electrical appliances or lights on when you leave the house– fit timers that automatically switch them off when they’re not needed or get motion detectors fitted to any outside lighting.
  • Give your TV, PC or laptop a rest when it’s not in use.
  • What about fitting smart thermostats? They can cut your gas consumption by up to 15%.
  • Don’t waste your energy! Modern insulation can cut down on heat loss and save you up to 15% on your heating bill.
  • A new boiler could be a useful investment – modern condensing gas boilers can cut your gas consumption by up to 30%.
  • Don’t get hot and bothered at home, rooms you don’t use too often and ones with their own heat sources like the kitchen and bathroom can get too hot. Fitting thermostatic radiator valves it saves energy and money too.
